The American Corner in Pécs was re-opened at a new location in the Zsolnay Cultural Quarter last week.
It was opened in 2004, the first of its kind in Hungary at the time; however, now four other centres like that operate in Hungary, in Debrecen, Veszprém, Budapest and Eger.
It is the center for information and programmes that highlights American culture, history, current events, and government.
It was established to enhance mutual understanding between the peoples of the United States and Hungary through various social and cultural opportunities. It offers an international dimension to the community of visitors.
The buildings of the Zsolnay Cultural Quarter are given new functions.
Cultural-educational institutes and organisations occupy the old-new factory buildings while, among others, restaurants, cafes and bars, community areas make this cultural recreation center, unique of its kind in Hungary, more comfortable.
