Dear Readers,
We inform You that our collection of Chinese works has been enlarging.
On October 13, 2009, the festive donation of books given by the Ministry of Culture of People's Republic of China took place in the Central Library.
Opening speeches were told by
dr. Zsolt Mérey
and
dr. Péter Fodor
The works were given by Öex. Wang Wen Zhang, cultural deputy minister of People's Republic of China.
Our library has set the aim to present the cultures of as many countries as possible.
The program mentioned above helped to accomplish the aim; that is to widen the scope of cultures. Through the conferences, various exhibitions, book donations and selections our readers can get more interesting and useful information on the countries (in this case, on China) they have already visited and those ones they have not been to.
The collection of 631 documents includes books, educational packages and CD-ROMs. The book collection is quite diverse; there are works on Chinese history and culture including traditions in painting and music; there are books about the beauty of Chinese land as well as about sports, for example kung fu, and the Beijing Olympic Games.
How to make Chinese meals, how to eat with sticks; traditions in tea-drinking, the story of Chinese inventions ... - various topics related to China are written about in the donated books.
Language learners can make use of textbooks and educational packages.
The Metropolitan Ervin Szabo Library has collected China-related documents since 1998; the great collection of fiction, educational works and periodicals are located in Kőbányai Library because the tenth district has the biggest Chinese population in Budapest.
